Our Phosphorylation Analysis Service to Expand in the U.S.

Dr. Horimoto, our CEO, traveled to the U.S. from December 4 to 13, 2024, to promote our phosphorylation service on the East Coast from December 4 to 7 and on the West Coast from December 8 to 12. On the East Coast, he had meetings with Professor Steven Grant of Virginia Commonwealth University and Professor Loao Lima of Johns Hopkins University, with whom we have already started collaboration. On the West Coast, after meeting with Dr.Tadaishi Manabe of University of California, San Francisco, he attended the international conference “The Protein Phosphatases Conference 2024”(https://events.faseb.org/event/protein-phosphatases/home) held in Palm Springs, California, USA. A poster presentation was made at the conference.
This promotion was held at the invitation of Canon Virginia, Inc. (https://www.cvi.canon.com/internet/portal/cvi/home).

【Our phosphorylation analysis service and its improvement】
Phospho-Totum (Patent No. 6884389), a phosphorylation analysis system, is the world’s first system that seamlessly integrates comprehensive measurement and data analysis of the phosphorylation state in cells. It measures the phosphorylation levels of 1,471 proteins (substrates) spotted on glass plates (arrays) by kinases in cell or tissue lysate in a single experiment. From the measured values, we estimate the activation level of pathways, kinases, and, in the case of drug candidate lysates, target kinases, using our proprietary analytical method.
Unlike the residue-by-residue measurement/analysis of substrates that is usually associated with the term “phosphorylation measurement analysis,” this system measures the phosphorylation level of the entire protein to estimate the activation of kinases at the level of target proteins and pathways. Thus, it helps to infer from the data whether the disease mechanism or target is optimal, without being constrained by past knowledge or assumptions of the researcher.
In FY2024, the system will be upgraded from the previous system that measured/analyzed the phosphorylation level of tyrosine kinase only to a system that can also measure/analyze the phosphorylation level of serine/threonine kinase, enabling more comprehensive analysis.

【The Protein Phosphatases Conference】
The Protein Phosphatases Conference has been held for about 35 years to explore the role of protein phosphatases and to share research results. The Protein Phosphatases Conference is the largest international conference on protein phosphatases in North America. Protein phosphatases are involved in virtually every area of cell biology, and their important regulatory functions are being revealed as the complexity of specific signaling pathways is unraveled. In particular, it is expected to be a target for new disease therapies.
